Get the Best From Everyone You Teach - Page 3

"Are they satisfied?" - SET YOUR SESSION OBJECTIVE.

Client satisfaction is based on achievement. Therefore the instructor must set session objectives.

So far we have discussed the instructors objectives which, when achieved does lead to the participants learning effectively. But now we need to look closer to why the participants come in the first place. They need to have a measure of their achievement to feel a high level of satisfaction. To measure whether each session is a success or failure we must set a session objective for each participant, whether this is to lift ten repetitions of a certain weight or to run 2 miles in 10 minutes or to do the combination perfectly. If the goal is measurable we can assess success. Many participants suffer from lack of motivation if their only goals are long term - such as to run 2 miles in 10 minutes or to lose ten pounds. Short term objectives increase participants motivation and level of satisfaction.

They don't "get it" - IT IS ALWAYS THE COACHES FAULT

Many coaches and instructors blame the participant if they can't do something correctly. This is the sign of a limited coach, yes, individuals do have different ability levels but it is the coach's job to find what method works for any individual so that they may enjoy and safely participate in their chosen activity. If the participant has a technical fault it is up to the coach to develop or invent a drill to correct that fault, the coach must think creatively! With a small amount of natural ability and a very good coach high levels of performance can indeed be achieved!
